Low Cost Scheme to run Linux

The latest pilot scheme by the government to get over 9.2 million people online for the first time has been announced. Low cost computers will go on sale this week with prices starting from as little as £98 for a refurbished one. Included in the price will be a flat screen monitor, keyboard and mouse as well as open source software. A telephone helpline has also been set up.

To help people access the Internet, a low cost mobile dongle costing £9 per month is available.

Race Online 2012 is behind the 12 month scheme and hopes that over 8000 units will be sold through over 60UK online centres.
